The sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation in the life of youth in the view of Fr. Józef Stanisław Płatek

Abstract

The article is a selective analysis of the ministry of the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation towards youth. The research analysis of available sources allowed to indicate certain aspects that have significant impact on the frequency of approaching and manner of experiencing Confession. Due to the multitude of factors influencing the spirituality of a young generation, the author decided to discuss them only marginally. Reflecting on the issue of the sacramental ministry, the paper also discusses the role of the minister himself. The priest has a significant influence on the way penitents experience Confession and their approach to the practice of the sacrament of Penance. This article indicates selected features that a priest who serves in the confessional should have. In such a short article it is impossible to discuss exhaustively issues related to the service of the sacrament of mercy towards girls and boys during adolescence. The paper is a starting point to further reflection and scientific research that would systematise available literature.
